· Biography Resource Center: This database integrates biographies from Gale Group sources with related full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals, as well as tens of thousands of images and links to hand-picked web sites.

· ProQuest: Full-text articles from magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias, and educational journals.

  • Student Resource Center: Broad database offering resources in literature, cultures, science, history, and geography. Full-text articles from reference works, primary sources, and periodicals.


Free Websites:

  • Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: PSO’s website has a search feature with many biographical sketches of various artists. Scroll down to search in the “Non Concert” field.

  • The Primrose International Viola Archive. Named in honor of William Primrose (1904-1982), the Scottish viola virtuoso who helped establish the viola as a concert instrument, the Primrose International Viola Archive (PIVA) originated in 1974 when Primrose accepted a proposal to donate his memorabilia to the Lee Library as the core of a new viola library that would eventually become a national "resource center for students, violists, and scholars."

  • Internet Cello Society: The Internet Cello Society, an international cyber-community of cellists, seeks to advance the knowledge and joy of cello playing around the world. We welcome cello enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

  • Allmusic.com: “The allmusic website was created in 1995 as a place for music fans to indulge their passion.
